Eyeshadow base evens out the skin tone of the eyelid and provides a smooth surface for the eyeshadow. It serves as a ';canvas'; for the eyeshadow palette, because it imparts an even, neutral hue and readies the lid for color. It helps the eyeshadow colors to stay ';true,'; and to appear more vibrant. The base also helps when multi shades are applied and blended to create highlights on the lid. The base helps the shadow to stay put without streaking or smudging.

I use Clinique Touch Base for Eyes in Nude Rose. it holds the eyeshadow on your eyes better and prevents it from flaking off or creasing on the lid. It's like foundation for your eyes...it just makes the eyemake up look a whole lot better. I recommend it.
The eyeshadow base is to help keep the shadow on throughout the day. It's like a ';all day wear'; lipstick. It's wonderful for powders, I'm not sure about cream shadows because I don't use them.
It helps the eyeshadow stick on longer and look better. If you have shimmer shadow I highly suggest wearing a base under it, it will help the shimmer show up 100x's better.
