Are certain colors of eyeshadow not suitable for certain people?

i've always worn whatever color i think is pretty in the container... but i've been told by some people that certain colors don't go well with fair skin or asian looks. is that true? if so, what colors would be better for me since im half asian but have fair skin, brown eyes?

the one color with a lot of objection was a sparkly pearly dark turquoise, even though i wore it very lightly. Are certain colors of eyeshadow not suitable for certain people?
Yeah, it's true that some colors just look hideous on different skin types. However, I happen to think that it's more of the shade of the color rather than the color itself. A person that is light skinned shouldn't wear dark, gloomy colors for instance dark blues and blacks. However they can wear the lighter colors that won't be so dramatic and can pull it off well.

It all depends on what you're using and if you are conscious of what you are putting on your face, knowing whether it goes or not. As a suggestion, whenever choosing or trying makeup, ask a friend how it looks on you before deciding to use it.Are certain colors of eyeshadow not suitable for certain people?
It is true that some colors can flatter your complexions like others can ';kill'; your look.

Skin has what is call ';Undertones';. You can be fair with blue or pink undertones; or yellow undertones. If the dark turquoise was not popular you probably have some yellow undertones.

Also it depends on your eyes and hair color. ( that is also a reason that turquoise was no good).

This theory goes with everything, your make up, your hair, your clothing, even your room deco.

Try colors with bronze and gold tones. Coral is a color that flatters any skin type. Jewels tones, (ruby, Sapphire etc.) may not look to good. If you eyes are brown colors like plums, eggplant and some violets will accentuate the brown.

Check this links to help you determine your skin tone.
I think if you've got brown eyes, you can wear any color eyeshadow. I can't think of any color that would look bad on you. I, on the other hand, have blue eyes, and certain colors definitely make my eyes pop (like oranges, browns and pinks), and others just look terrible (blue, green). I bet you'd look great in blues and greens this spring!
lime green pink and purples.
peach color
It all depends on the alfit you are planning to wear and your hair color.
I am a very fair redhead and am very limited on colors. I stay to more neutral colors and keep my color to my lips. Most people have a hard time wearing a bright turquoise color. I see it all the time but it really is hard to pull off. a pearlized copper or warm brown color may work better. shades of violet work well for darker eyes and hair and can be worn with fair skin.
well almost any color goes with brown eyes...but certain colors accentuate them more.

for shin tones, obviously some colors would look bad...

whoever objected to the turquiose prolly thought that it brought out bad tones in your skin....

don't wear anything too dark because it will show up a lot.

try grey, gold, maybe purple/blue... blend them to get a flattering color combo.
It's true- the colors you wear should go with your skin tone as well as your eye color. Based on how you describe your color I thinnk browns, purples and golds should look good on you. Also try navy eyeliner- it will compliment your eye color.
Correct! if you have brown eyes, go for a light pink or a brown nutural color. If you have green eyes, deep purple will really bring out your eyes. Blue eyes..matalics and peachy colors. And for hazel, you should were golds, peachy colors.
