The most popular style of eye makeup that is worn at most counters is the traditional smokey eye style, just in different colors.

Along the brow ridge, a highlight (light color, usually a light frost or a lighter color than your natural skin tone).

Over the lid area, the color of choice.

In the inner V (the corner next to the nose) a slightly lighter shade of the color of choice or a coordinating color in a light shade.

In the outer V (outer corner of the eye) and along the crease, a darker shade of the color of choice (or for a traditional smokey eye, a dark grey or black).

Line with a liquid liner (most artists use basic black at all times) and tightline (line the wet line of your eye as well). You can also tightline with white to make your eyes appear wider.

Most also finish off the look by curling the lashes, adding a set of false lashes also, and then a coating of mascara.

Here's what I personally use for the traditional, basic (yet gorgeous) smokey eye:

(all items from MAC)

Inner V: Shroom Eyeshadow

Outer V %26amp; Crease: Black Tied Eyeshadow

Lid: Mulch Eyeshadow

Highlight: Vanilla Pigment

Liner: Blacktrack Fluidline

Lashes: #3 (Cut in half and applied on the outer upper lid)ANYONE WHO WORKS AT MAC?! How do you apply your eyeshadow in that unique way?!?
